True Blood, Vol. 1: All Together Now (True Blood #1)

Blood and sex mix on a hot rainy night at Merlotte's, when Sookie and her friends are trapped by a vengeful spirit who feeds on shame. People die and dirty secrets are revealed as Sookie, Bill, Eric, Sam, Tara, Jason, and Lafayette and are all coerced to dig deep and tell painful memories from their past....those things we all have locked within us that we never tell another living soul Bon Temps, Louisiana has never been stranger, or more twisted, in a story co-plotted by True Blood series creator Alan Ball, with a script by David Tischman (Bite Club) and Mariah Huehner, and lush art by David Messina (Star Trek: Countdown).

I had just finished watching Season 1 of True Blood (Yes, I know I'm a tad behind, but I don't get HBO) and I needed a fix when all of the sudden this fantastically amazing Graphic Novel poped out at me while I was perusing through my local library. I was so excited to read it that I went straighht home, shut my door, and read until I finished it (This was the day after Thanksgiving and the left over turkey was calling my name, so this took a bit of effort on my part.) Anyway, I'm happy to say that I've finished this first novel and OH MY GOODNESS. I absolutely ADORED it.

Some things in this novel didn't really make sense to me , but I chalked that up to me not watching Season 2 of True Blood before I started reading. I loved learning some of the backstories of my favorite side characters, although I think the Vampires should have opened up a bit more... Maybe it's just my wild imagination, but I think they have a lot more skeletons in their closet...

Either way, this was an extremely entertaining read and I can't wait to pick up the second book!

Vampire Academy: The Graphic Novel (1)

After two years on the run, best friends Rose and Lissa are caught and returned to St. Vladimir’s Academy, a private high school for vampires and half-bloods. It’s filled with intrigue, danger—and even romance.

Enter their dark, fascinating world through a new series of 144-page full-color graphic novels. The entire first Vampire Academy novel has been adapted for book one by Leigh Dragoon and overseen by Richelle Mead, while the beautiful art of acclaimed British illustrator Emma Vieceli brings the story to life.

When I picked this up from my local library, I was expecting something that was as fantastic as the original VA books. I was a little disappointed in reading this book, I guess I was just expecting more detail plot wise. I mean, the basic plot was there, it was just kind of in bits and pieces and I kept having to remind myself what happened in the first VA book to make certain things in this graphic novel make sense. I don't know if this novel would make much sense to someone who hasn't read the VA books, because I don't think a person who hasn't read VA would completely understand the characters and the world that VA is set in. Either way, the graphic novel was good. I loved the drawing and this was a good way for me to recap what happened in the first Vampire Academy book. Plus, Dimitri was pretty awesome. I can't wait to see what they do with Adrian and he rest of the gang. This book definitely needs to be on my shelf.

The Walking Dead vol 1

An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe, causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. In a matter of months, society has crumbled: There is no government, no grocery stores, no mail delivery, no cable TV. Rick Grimes finds himself one of the few survivors in this terrifying future. A couple months ago he was a small town cop who had never fired a shot and only ever saw one dead body. Separated from his family, he must now sort through all the death and confusion to try and find his wife and son. In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally begin living.

This was the second graphic novel that I've read, and I have to say that I enjoyed it a lot. I don't have much to compare it to, but from all of the talk about this TV series, I think that it'd be ok if I said that this book was a really good first book for this series.
I enjoyed the depth of the characters, they were developed well, but for some reason I thought that there could have been more development. Some things were hinted at in the dialogue - and sometimes even in the drawing - but they weren't fully developed. The extreme plot twist at the end made me want to read more, so I ordered the next four books in the series from my library... Anyway, I loved the post-apocalyptic setting and the drawing was phenomenally creepy. I am definitely going to keep up with this series, but first I think I have to catch up...

Supergirl vol. 5: Way of the World

For Supergirl, it's not easy growing up the most powerful teenager in the world. But as she tries desperately to carve out a place for herself on Earth, the Teen of Steel struggles with the mysteries of her past on Krypton and her potential as one of Earth's mightiest heroes.

Promising a dying boy to use her spectacular powers for the practical purpose of curing his terminal illness, Supergirl upsets the universe's rules of life and death in the service of her impossible quest and may have to face off with Superman and Batman to accomplish it. Should heroes of unfathomable power attempt to change humanity? Or are their offers of help more harmful than good?

This was the first comic that I've ever read, and I didn't realize that it was the fifth book in the series when I picked it up. However, I knew a bit about Supergirl from watching Smallville - when Smallville was on.Anyway, I really liked reading this comic and IU think I've found something new to obsess over for a while. The character development was great, and the pictures were drawn well. One thing that I didn't really understand was the time-jumps and the random advertisements for other comics throughout the book. Maybe I'm just a noob. Either way, 3.5/5 stars.
